This is an image of my collection of African violets otherwise known as Saintpaulia ionantha. I do not know what cultivars I have growing as I propagate them by leaf cuttings that I obtain from friends and family. Some people have a difficult time growing African violets but I find them quite easy to grow as long as certain horticultural criteria can be met like letting the soil dry out between waterings and giving the plants a goodly amount of sunshine such as can be found by locating the plants on a window sill oriented in an east or west facing solar exposure. African violets like warm temperatures above 65° F and some humidity. I grow them in a soilless mix that goes by the name of "ProMix". Fish emulsion fertilizer appears to meet their nutritional needs. |
