Oh yeah! This is what the stuffed peppers ought to look like just prior to when you add tomato sauce and finish the baking process. Note the bacon bits on top of the stuffing. The next thing you need is some 'red'. Red like tomato sauce, crushed, pureed, canned or fresh tomatoes. I used canned tomatoes this time, but I think I'll use fresh tomatoes the next time I attempt this wonderful meal. I've got a garden full of them. Season the sauce to your own personal preferences. If you like Italian, season with basil and garlic. Add a little sugar to the tomato sauce to cut down on bitterness that sometimes is present with canned tomato sauce. Now pour a 28 ounce can of tomato sauce or fresh finely chopped tomatoes directly over the peppers. Add another can of 28 ounce tomato sauce and an additional cup of water into the bottom of the baking dish. |
