Ah, the ubiquitous fiddlehead. These plants once helped to see me through the starving time on a distant planet far, far, away. The fiddlehead is edible. If you get the short ones next to the ground and steam them or fry them in butter with mushrooms, you have yourself a nice woodland meal. You could even have visions afterward if you use the right kind of mushroom. They go well with trout and wood pidgeon too.
