This is an image of a commercial size acorn squash trained to grow on jute string lattice. A wooden support made out of 2in. x 2in. by 8ft. long pressure treated wood is lashed together using what is generally referred to as a tripod lashing (there are many variations on this theme). Jute is then further wrapped around the supports forming a lattice which the plant can be trained to grow upon. Acorn squash will keep for long periods if stored in a cool, dark, and dry location. Striped cucumber beetle is the main insect pest and can be picked off the plants by hand daily if you plan on not using pesticides. |
